Reiki – A System of Natural Healing

Reiki is a system of Natural Healing and the word, “Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’.  This tradition was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and is taught by Reiki masters / teachers handing down the knowledge and attunements from master to student.  Dr Mikao Usui purchased many ancient healing texts to rediscover this ancient form of healing energy and bring it back again to the world.

We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things.  When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us.  We then experience a sense of wellbeing.  We soon know when our energy is not flowing well and we feel wonderful when it is.

Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.  Reiki can help the body emotionally, mentally or spiritually and is a tradition that is open to any belief system.  It often helps to provide emotional support during recovery processes.

The method of receiving Reiki treatment is simple.  The recipient remains clothed and lies on a couch or sits on a chair and relaxes.   The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body.  Massage or manipulation is not included.  The whole person is treated rather than specific areas.

Sessions usually take 60 minutes.  Long distance Reiki can also be given.  Again a client lies or sits down, for 15 to 30 minutes, and relaxes at a specific time agreed.  Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time.  Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment.

Benefits reported by clients include deep relaxation promoting a calm peaceful sense of wellbeing on all levels.  Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling or experience seeing colours, whilst others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.

Reiki is a safe and soothing treatment that can be comforting when life is tough.  The relaxing nature of Reiki can be very helpful to people especially at difficult times in our lives.  We can all feel overwhelmed or disconnected, sometimes there is a real sense of isolation, both emotionally and spiritually.

Reiki treatments can bring feelings of peace, centredness and an ability to cope better with these challenges that life can bring.  Reiki can be beneficial in circumstances that are short term, but can also support people dealing with long-standing conditions, helping to bring comfort, acceptance and a more positive outlook.

Reiki can be wonderful for pregnant women.  Treatments can be very relaxing and enjoyable for the mother.  Reiki creates a balanced, loving and harmonious relationship between the mother and the child.  Reiki practiced in the early days of the pregnancy can help reduce exhaustion and nausea in the pregnant woman

Children usually love Reiki. The length of a session is often shorter than it would be for an adult.  Reiki promotes calmness and confidence promoting balance and greater self awareness.  Other benefits for children include greater relaxation and better sleep.

Animals also respond well to Reiki, they too seem to find it relaxing and soothing.  Animals will let you know when they have had enough Reiki by moving away.  My cat also nudges my hand, with his body movement, towards the areas he wants healing in.  Animals will often move around so that your hand is where they want it to be for the healing they require.

Helpful at the end of life, Reiki can also be a great comfort, helping to promote a sense of peace and acceptance for the dying and their families.

How much Reiki would I need?

A single session may be sufficient, but it is best to discuss this with your practitioner.  For instance, if you have long standing emotional or spiritual issues, a series of sessions may be beneficial.  In general if you find that helpful changes are taking place, it is a good idea to continue treatment.

There are no known contraindications for Reiki.  It is a non-intrusive treatment that can be delivered in a variety of settings and requires no special equipment.

Your investment for a blissful Reiki treatment is $30.  If a series of sessions is required, the investment will be decided together.  If you are struggling financially, please let me know and we will put together a Reiki care payment plan that best suits your needs.

Distance Reiki is also available where I attune in with you to the Universal Healing Energies.  This can be requested by email or phone.  A consultation by email or phone can be helpful after the session.  Distance Reiki is free of charge or by donation if you wish.

Animals often prefer to be in their own environment when having Reiki so home visits can be made, locally, at this time.  Choosing times when your pet generally relaxes is helpful to the Animal Reiki treatment.

While being attuned to Reiki energy and practising Reiki self-treatments I found that I experienced health and wellbeing improvements on many levels and continue to do so.  Reiki is part of my life now and it is a truly wonderful form of healing to be able to share.  Reiki can bring peace and meaning to many people’s lives.  I look forward to sharing this energy with you.  Many blessings on your day.
